WATER AVAILABILITY, QUALITY AND USE INVESTIGATIONS

Services Offered:
Streamflow Gauging Networks
Water Quality Analysis
Water Rights and Supply Evaluation
Pond and Wetland Design and Construction

Hydrologic Investigations

We design, install and run streamflow gauging networks, as well as model and analyze the influence of various land uses on runoff patterns. Flood and low-flow frequency statistical analyses are important factors to our water quality work. Water quality variables that can be monitored include temperature, PH, DO, conductivity, and nutrients, among others.

Water Rights and Water Supply Evaluation

Calculations of water use for irrigation and diversion canal efficiencies are compared to annual runoff patterns and flow measurements in our evaluation of western water rights. We also determine water needs for non-consumptive uses such as channel maintenance flows, riparian restoration and minimum fisheries flows.

Pond Construction and Wetland Creation

We approach the design of wetlands and ponds from an interdisciplinary angle: we evaluate precipitation and runoff patterns, groundwater table elevation, soil and rock layer permeability and chemistry, and the requirements of appropriate riparian plant communities. In the case of ponds for fish, we also look at depth and annual temperature variations as well as other biotic and abiotic conditions to ensure that properly selected fish species have enough oxygen in hot summer months and under the ice during the winter, and other attributes to ensure survivability.
