Severe Disturbance Restoration
Severe disturbance restoration is one of our more challenging tasks and usually includes working with subsoils, compacted soils, toxic soils and over-steepened slopes.
We offer a unique depth of knowledge and skill set to take on these challenges. Our approach identifies the factors that limit plant establishment and combines this information with an understanding of the ecology and physiology of specific plant species.
Our soils and restoration staff test soil characteristics to identify limiting factors, mitigate those soil limitations, appropriately site vegetation and establish monitoring and experiments as needed. As with most of our work, we take cues from nearby reference locations to find the most cost-effective ways to let nature heal itself, with the appropriate mix of targeted restoration and long-term monitoring and adaptive management.
