In 1995 and 1996 Watershed Consulting conducted watershed analyses to evaluate potential sediment impacts of road building and timber harvest to endangered salmon and steelhead habitat. These studies involved a geomorphic-based stream stability study, slope and road stability analysis and concomitant sediment impact analysis. Field verification of slope stability algorithms was combined with adjacent stream stability data to indicate the potential for sediment delivery to the Clearwater River tributaries. Alternative construction methods and routes were developed depending upon shallow groundwater and soil conditions.
